If you visit Porto, you have to do a day wine tasting in the Douro Valley…

The Douro Valley is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, known for its famous Port wines, but it offers so much more. The wine region follows along the Douro River, with vineyards etched into the sides of the hills.

How to Experience the Douro Valley - a Day Trip from Porto

Book a day trip from Porto. Some tours are done by boat such as this one. Make sure your tour guide provides transportation from Porto. I do not recommend making the drive yourself.

You’ll tour different wine houses and taste not only Port, but also other wines from the region. In some of the houses, you’ll also see antique wine-making tools and learn about the history of how wine has been made in this region.

The tour provides lunch to you, so you can try a typical Portuguese meal. You’ll need to allocate an entire day to this tour, and it is well worth it. Be sure to grab a bottle of your favorite Port to take home! I brought one back from Quinta do Tedo!
